If only all horror VHS covers could look this good. Alas, it was not to be. Yet, despite their flaws I am still able to enjoy looking at these old boxes - as a fan of the genre, and for sheer nostalgia's sake.
I've tried to include titles that you perhaps aren't as familiar with. We've all seen the Poltergeist cover.... but do your recall the cover art for Bloodbath at the House of Death? If the answer is 'no', you may want to step inside the Retrospace Video Store and see what's on the shelves...
IMPERIAL ENTERTAINMENT CORP.
D: JOYCE SNYDER
STARRING: TODD EASTLAND (Music by ANTHRAX)
BACK: ".... today Acid Sid is back to earn his Master's Degree..... in Revenge!"
I'd give anything to see this movie. Kenny Everett was great - and had that Benny Hill-esque knack for featuring plenty of hot chicks. You would think there would be more British horror-comedies - The Brits do both genres so well, one wonders why they didn't combine more often. There was a horror themed "Carry On" film (Carry On Screaming) but it wasn't particularly good. The only other that comes to mind is Shaun of the Dead, a classic.
THRILL KILL (1984)
D: ANTHONY D' ANDREA
STARRING: ROBIN WARD, GINA MASSEY
BACK: "Thrill Kill is a new video game with a secret worth three and a half million dollars!"
Help, police! Someone's stabbed a McRib!
At last we learn how J. Ripper did his dirty deeds. He somehow shrank his victims to half their size before killing them. Finally, it all makes sense.
THE SCREAMING DEAD (aka DRACULA VS. FRANKENSTEIN, 1972)
D: JESUS FRANCO
STARRING: DENNIS PRICE, HOWARD VERNON
BACK: "....In no time the village is plagued by a wave of unquenchable blood lust and bone crunching terror as never before seen."
This is exactly how I feel when I look at my phone first thing in the morning and I have the brightness set too high. It's about time they made a horror movie about it.
Starring the chick from the Whitesnake videos. So, you know there's going to be some quality acting.
Hey wait a minute. That center zombie looks exactly like one of the zombies on the Holocausto Cannibal 2 cover. What gives? Maybe they're trying to be Earth friendly and recycling. "This movie was made with 100% recycled zombies." Now that's a movie I can get behind..
